To new begginings

It’s been so long since I’ve written anything here. This year has been a very busy one so far which has made The Wandering Stylist – an all things fashion related blog – to quickly become a vague memory in my mind that I somewhat managed to ignore – until now.

As upset as I am with myself about leaving aside the blog, part of ignoring it was because I wasn’t enjoying it anymore. When I first began, I created a minumum of 2 posts a week and the ideas were endlessly flowing. I had a clear vision of where I wanted to go with the blog and what I wanted to do with it, but as time passed, so where the inspirations and the will of creating new things. What began as a loving hobby soon became an unwanted routine – sort of like doing the dishes or taking out the trash. It just wasn’t fun anymore.

That’s why I decided I should give my blog a new twist and making it more personal. My goal is to be able to show my experiences, thoughts and inspirations towards everything that surrounds me in a more intimate way. From my every day activities and thoughts to my opinions and reviews about my main pasions, this blog will no longer be labeled as a one themed site. I know it wont be an easy task, but if everyone had it easy, where would all the fun be?

Also, I took the time to give The Wandering Stylist a new makeover since I felt its design just wasn’t me anymore. My style is always in constant change, so why didn’t my site too? From the font to the colors and logo, right now, this site perfectly represents yours truly.

I’ve promised myself to not go by a strict schedule but just to post whenever I feel like it. I’ve seen people who had pushed themselves so hard to succeed in the “blogging world” that the results turn out to be dull and unentertaining, and my goal is to keep this site as organic as possibile. I guess that what I’m trying to say is that, this time, I’ll be making things for me.

So feel free to follow The Wandering Stylist while I’m in the quest of finding myself; one blog post at a time.

The beauty of Haute Couture

the beauty of haute couture

Haute couture has existed for more than a century and since its origins in Paris by english couturier Charles Frederick Worth, it has managed to remain the most luxurious way of fashion making. Haute couture intended to be an exclusive kind of fashion; constructed 100% by hand (without the use of sewing machines), made with luxurious fabrics and tailored specifically for the client. It was a dream come true to the ladies of that era since the garments were one-of-a-kind. Some of the most important couturiers of the time were Gabriele “Coco” Chanel, Christian Dior, Hubert de Givenchy and Jeanne Lanvin amongst others.

The word haute couture transmits a sense of luxury, distinction and perfect quality to the viewers no matter if it was created in the eary 1900’s or today. The skill of creating haute couture is not easy since its time consuming and a budget is not relevant when creating the garnments. At first, each couture piece was created for a specific client but today they’re mostly designed for the runway and they’re looked as pieces of art rather than just clothes.

Since haute couture requires hard work and a limitless amount of money to be created, its existence has been decreasing over the years. Nowadays, the term haute couture is protected so very few designers can call themselves couturiers. Despite of the hardness of the craft, several designers like Elie Saab, Valentino Garavano, Jean Paul Gaultier and Giambattista Valli (to name a few) have emerged to be known as the couturiers of this century.

The modern day couturiers still manage to communicate the same ideals of the creators of haute couture but without forgetting to adapt the trends of today. Another element that’s been introduced today at haute couture collections are the runways that create an ambiance that matches perfectly with the outfits which wasn’t used before. But no matter the time of creation, haute couture was and will always be distinguished by its way of creating dreams out of a piece of clothing.

How to style: Ankle Booties!

how to style ankle booties

One of my must-have pieces for this winter has to be the ankle booties. Ankle booties have been trending since last year but now they’re seen everywhere. You can find them from the most luxurious brands to your local boutique. What’s best is that they come in different colors, textures, heights and prints, adapting to each and everyones personal style.

The options are endless when it comes to styling and choosing the perfect pair of ankle booties because they’ll look good with everything; from flowy dresses and skirts to boyfriend jeans, cropped pants and skirts. They will elongate your legs if you chose a pair with heels, give you comfort if you choose a flat pair and they’ll give a touch of style to an everyday outfit.

Now that I conviced you (hopefully!) that a pair of ankle booties will definitelly help to improve your winter closet, keep scrolling down so you can check out some street style inspiration and outfits I created on my Polyvore account on how to style them. Also, I made a table showing you several types of ankle booties proving that it doesn’t matter if  you’re on a budget or want to splurge on a good pair of boots!

I hope you enjoy this post, have a great beggining of week everyone :)

Magic sceneries at the SS 2014 Paris runways!

cover pfw

Paris fashion week is known for showing some of the most luxurious brands in the fashion market and this season they impressed us not only with amazing clothes but also with greatly made runway sceneries that created the perfect ambiance to show their newest spring collections.

This season, designers used different ideas to create a magical illusion inside the runways that would blend along with their collections. One of them was the Chanel runway, which was filled with different sculptures and paintings (all related to the brand). The runway made you feel like you were in a modern art gallery. Even the models makeup, the prints and accessories that Karl Lagerfeld opted for made a simulation to abstract paintings.

Louis Vuitton also caught my eye for its fantastic clothes and scenario. The runway was not your regular one; the collection was showed in a two-floored place, the models were lifted through a vintage elevator that lead to a pair of electric stairways which they used to get to the first floor. In the 1st. floor, there was a black carrousel and fountain. The whole scenery and clothes were black, the lights were dim and it was simulated a world of luxurious dark fantasy.

The collection was memorable not only for its extravagant looks and scenery, but because it was the last one with Marc Jacobs as their creative designer.

There were lots of other amazing brands that created extraordinary runways. From Hermés to Christian Dior, this year’s spring PFW did not only include beautiful clothes but also had runways that helped to give the spectators a vivid look inside the designers’ visions and inspirations.  To see some of them, keep scrolling down.

I hope you enjoyed this post and I wish you a great beginning of week everyone!

Review: Pastel fever at the Spring 2014 London Fashion Week.

This year, London Fashion Week happened from September 13th. to the 17th. and it brought us the best of the British fashion. From emerging brands to the classic ones, we got to see the always innovative british designs and most importantly; the upcoming trends for the new season.

The trend that caught my eye because of the several amount of times that it was seen were the pastel and light colors. Pretty much all of the LFW was full of them. The clothes, accessories and even some runways were inspired by the flowery pastel colors. The lightness of the fabrics gave the clothes even more freshness and made them look perfectly adequate for the hot days of summer. For the accessories, the pastels were also mixed with metallics to give them a futuristic vibe.

Antonio Berardi, Ashish, Burberry Prorsum, House of Holland and more served as the perfect example of how pastels, according to british designers, will be the must-have color of your spring and summer wardrobe! Keep on scrolling to see some of the best british designers that added the pastel trend to their collections. Have a great beginning of week everyone!

Steal the Style: Lily Collins!

Senza titolo-1

Hello everyone! I’ve realized that one of my favorite posts I’ve created so far has to be the one of Steal the Style. I love analyzing a celebrity’s style from head to toe and showing you how to achieve their looks and style using more affordable pieces. With that being said, for my second post of – Steal the Style -, I decided to chose actress Lily Collins.

Lily is a 24 year old English American actress known for her roles in The Blind Side, Abduction, and the fantasy film adaptation The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Even though she has just started to take part in mayor film roles, her style can’t be unnoticed. Now that she’s appearing in more red carpets, we’ve seen her daring but still refined looks. You can tell in her style that she mixes perfectly her English rose roots with the fresh airs of California, the city that she’s been living since she was 5.

Her street style is relaxed and casual. She keeps her accessories minimal, wears basic items but knows how to mix them to make her outfit put together. She uses comfortable clothes and adds a boho chic and laid back rocker girl air to her looks. Check out some of my favorite ones:

Her red carpet style instead is very high fashion, she takes risks and wears the latest fashion trends. Lily looks more mature on the red carpet because of her red carpet outfit choices and bold makeup. Cut-outs, crop tops and backless dresses are a few of her risky fashion choices which she manages to make them look elegant and fancy. Check out some of my favorite ones:

If you love her style as much as I did and want to copy it, I created two outfits inspired by her. The pieces are similar to what she wore and they’re also more affordable. (I’ll also post the links of them below).

Best NY Street Style Looks – Spring 2014.

As some of you may know, the street style has become one of the most important things to see when fashion week arrives. We get to see pure and raw looks since they’re not walking on the runway. The models and vip’s of the fashion industry show us how to rock runway clothes in real life and the laid-back fashionistas show us how the use vintage or even thrifted things can look the best. They are definitely the ones that bring to life fashion week and we have to admit that they also serve as inspiration to designers for their upcoming collections.

For the Spring 2014 season in NY, the weather was still hot so we got to see a mix of short dresses and skirts, amazing colors but without forgetting the always seen neutrals. The looks spotted were infinite and a whole gamma of designer clothes was used; some of the trends that caught my eye were the head-to-toe monochromatic look, oversized clothes, pencil skirts, leather, denim, futuristic prints, strappy sandals, ankle-booties and sneakers.

The street style is one of the best ways for getting inspiration when you get dressed since you see real people experimenting with new and innovative things instead of just watching them on the runway. This is just the beginning of the Street Style for this season since London, Milan and Paris are still ahead. I honestly can’t wait to see what other surprises these places may bring to the street style! Take a look to some of my favorite looks and let me know in the comments below which ones did you liked the most and if you have other favorites too. Have a great friday everyone :)

Review: Street style luxury at the DKNY Spring Summer 2014 Collection.

The 90’s edgy but sporty style served as the main inspiration for the SS ’14 DKNY collection. This year marked DKNY’s 25th. anniversary, so the front row was full of A-listers, not to mention their amazing line-up of models. From Joan Smalls opening the runway, to pop sensation and fashionista Rita Ora finishing it with a complete DKNY look. The brand served as the perfect example of how color and texture can blend beautifully with the comfort of the street style look. There was a simplicity in each piece which was useful for the final result of the outfits since the models didn’t looked overwhelming nor overdressed.

This season, DKNY went back to its New York street luxury style roots in a fierce way. The collection had a diverse gamma of t-shirts, flowy dresses and skirts, sporty jackets and sneakers, and the classic DKNY jeans. The color palette was a mixture of neutrals with pops of orange, turquoise, lavender, and yellow. The accessories had a major role for the collection since it was the caps, running sneakers, leather backpacks and bags that created the sporty chic ambiance. A sleek pony tail and an orange lip gave the models a sense of freshness and lightness.

Even though there were several trends incorporated to the collection, the one that standed out the most was the DKNY logo prints making it the must-have of the entire collection.  This season, DKNY showed its bold and sleek style through sporty and fresh garments and gave us a reminder of how perfectly a new yorker mixes the streets with the high fashion life style.

Waterproof looks – Your guide for fighting the cloudy season!

Rainy days might be a synonym of puffy hair, possible wet clothes and shoes, and we can’t forget about the horrible colds. Whenever it rains we just want to stay home, but if you have to go out, any outfit might turn out to be a mess since we just throw on layers of clothes to make sure we don’t get wet.

Thankfully, there are lots of items we now can pick to make a blah rainy outfit into an amazing one regardless of the strong rains. I chose 4 essential items that I believe can help you survive the rain with style: an umbrella (obviously!), raining boots, a raincoat, and a hat. The options are endless when it comes to wearing them so I gathered some of my favorite looks with these 4 items so you can get some inspiration for giving a boost to your rainy day outfit.

And since New York Fashion Week is happening right now, I created four looks inspired by the street style outfits we’ve been seen outside the runways adding the 4 go-to raining items in a fashionable way. I hope you enjoy the post and let me know in the comments below which outfit is your favorite! Happy beginning of week everyone!
